Abandoned Barn

This render is the result of an exercise in procedural materials. Other than the background sky, the layers of dirt, rust, moss, and chipping paint which compose the scene are generated through a variety of carefully manipulated fractal patterns. This method allows for quick iteration and re-usability across a variety of objects in comparison to painted textures. Functions which determine the likelihood of dirt accumulation based on a model's geometery can be reused on a variety of  objects and simplify asset creation by reducing the need for UV mapping. I intend to make further modifications to the materials in this scene and render from angles which show the more detailed materials up close.
Credit for models and lighting in this scene go to Ali Yassin who can be reached at aly.yassin@berkeley.edu. An older version of the tractor is rendered below with a wireframe comparison to illustrate the effect of texturing.
Tractor Revamp

I created the materials/textures for this scene in Renderman 20 using the LMMaterials system.

This is an ambient occlusion pass which helps illustrate the change before materials were applied to the scene.
